Silver-lined Excrement

My mom and stepfather are in Hawaii right now.

I'm so jealous.
I get emails from my mom talking about all the whales they're seeing.
The only whale I've seen in real life was Shamu at Sea World.
My mom takes fabulous photos, so I can't wait to see her pictures.

I digress.

While my mom is in Hawaii, her 13-year-old black Labrador, Seamus, is staying with us.

13 is really old for a Lab.
Seamus is an old man dog.
He has a gray muzzle, it's getting harder for him to see or smell, and he has trouble getting up and down.

And...wait for it...

he has trouble keeping poop in.

That's right, it just randomly pops out.

I warned the whole family to keep an eye out for poop.
And every day I've found some here or there.

Well, then we come to yesterday. I'm getting ready for work (at my new job!), and my dad calls me to his part of the house. He says he needs my opinion.

huh. That's unusual.
Does he want advice on what to wear?
His vision is bad.

Well, turns out, he wasn't sure what the big mess was on the carpet outside his room.
The mess that was smushed and tracked everywhere.

I gave my opinion.
"That's not mud, Dad."

I'm sure you've guessed by now, Seamus had struck again.

Texas Homeboy ended up on his hands and knees cleaning up miles of poop out of the carpet, while I finished getting ready for work.

Before I left, my dad said to me, "You know, there's a silver lining."
me: "Oh, really? What's that? (as the smell of poop permeated the entire household)"
Dad: "It could have been MY poop."

Oh. huh. He has a point.

And then, he took it too far...
Dad: "I bet my poop smells better."

Thanks, Dad.

That was the silver lining yesterday.

Do you look for silver linings in your bad situations?

Want to share one?

Your Dad cracks me up!!
I do tend to look for the silver lining in a bad situation.
My silver lining is that with all the cleaning and washing I've been doing the past few days out of necessity, my house is now spick and span. Something that hasn't been happening lately.

I like to think there's always a silver lining. But not so much right now.

Your Dad is hilarious.

Your dad sounds like a real hoot.
I'm a silver lining person. Once, when I got it in my head to go camping with my boyfriend(future husband), I remarked how the drizzle brought out the dark, earthy tones of the trees and landscape. When we couldn't get any fire started with what wood we did find, I thought it was so nice we brought food that could be eaten cold. When the tent leaked during the night and we woke up slightly damp, I happily talked about how nice it was that the leak had been small.
We never went camping again, but he married me despite my disastrous attempt at camping. :)

Being the mother of a stealth pooper, I can sympathize. The difference is my pooper is young and a touch evil.

The silver lining is something to strive for every day. Thanks for the thoughts... I need to look for more silver linings from day to day!

I also recommend the Bissell Spot Bot for any scary stains... it's helped us immensely!

That is pretty funny. TNT fed Trixie this morning before he left. I told him to put her on the chain when he left. Did he? Nope he left her inside. Guess what she did. Pooped right by the door and jumped back in bed with me to snuggle. Sure enough TNT should have listened to me.

I try to look for the silver lining in things. But when my old dog, had projectile diarrhea all over the walls, doors, door frame, floor in the hallway. All I could do is be glad I didn't vomit.

See...your dad knows you need humor sometimes to diffuse the situation.

My husband told me the other day that he is trying really hard this year to look at the positive side of things. No matter what happens he needs to look at the good outcomes from it. I like that. And silver linings.

Silver lining....lately? I'm sure there's got to be something, right? Maybe I just can't think of it right now.

You dad has a great sense of humor, lol!

They should bring you back something nice from Hawaii, no? For taking care of the dog.

Your dad is great. I TRY to look for silver linings and I think I'm better at finding them now than I was before my bad car accident. Having a big obstacle in my life (my recovery which is going on 3 years) to deal with each day makes me realize the smaller stuff usually has a silver lining if you look hard enough.

That is such a dad thing to say! LOL.

Classic ... I love your dad! Seamus, poor old pooch ... it's bound to happen. Reminds me of the days of cleaning up after my vomiting cat in her old age. I can only hope someone does the same for me someday.

There's always a silver lining if you look hard enough ... just don't forget to look down occasionally in case Seamus leaves another surprise!

I think I just fell in love with your sweet dad!

i do try to look at the silver lining and/or a lesson from every difficult, hard, bad situation.

Kudo's to the Mister for takin' care of poop patrol!

Ronnica said...

Did he say that, because he's worried he'll develop the same condition the dog has? Hehe

Oh Annie...don't let that dog steal your stuff
