This is Everything You Never Wanted to Know.

This is the child that's going to give me gray hair and wrinkles.

This is the child that turns 7 years old tomorrow.

One moment he's sweet and adorable, organizing the toiletries in my bathroom.
The next minute he's screaming he hates us all.

***************************************************

This is the 100-year-old family recipe caramel cake that I begged my mom to make for the above child's birthday.

A recipe that my sweet grandmother threatened bodily harm if anyone in the family shared it with others.

****************************************************

This is the son who proclaimed that yesterday's haircut was a disaster.
He hates it and thinks he looks awful.

The same son who asked me to help him remember to practice his trombone and brush his teeth.
And then when I do remind him to do these things, he tells me I'm bossy and pushy.

****************************************************

This is the husband who perplexes me.

Who never reads my blog.

*****************************************

And this, heaven help me, is me, fresh out of bed in the morning.
raw and uncensored thanks to Mama Dawg.

And this is something I just thought I'd throw in because I'm hungry, and they look good.

kids are weird. especially boys... well no, that isn't true... girls are whiny and complain a lot and boys just have out breaks of behavior that makes you scratch your head. my five year is old is getting to Remy's stage. he is very emotional. the "I hate yous" kill me, but I remember saying it too, and not meaning it at all. hang in there.

the cake... wow!! yummo!! if you ever feel like sharing I'll be here to get it and make it. delish.

Happy Birthday to your 7 yr old handsome boy!! :)

You look AWESOME when you wake up in the morning. shit. i don't look like that after doing some "WORK" on myself. lol

as far as husbands go... well yeah. perplexing is just one of the things mine is. and mine NEVER reads my blog either. :P whatever.

hope you have a good day today!! and just know that you are an awesome mom and wife and one day they will all really appreciate you and not be wierdo's.

Well, you could just share that recipe, for that delicious looking caramel cake, between you and your faithful blog readers ...nobody would need to know.:-)

As to kids, especially boy children, being weird .... well, all I can say is that these years are survivable. You may want to tear your hair out by the roots and often have the urge to peg them (the kids) up to the clothesline by their ears, but all that will pass and you'll have your *normal* boys back again. However, by that stage they will be almost grown men. :-)

Speaking from experience, it's going to be a wild ride, but a fun one :-)

You look fine in the morning. :-)

Can you imagine what your poor grandma would do if you put the recipe on your blog?

My husband never reads my blog either. What's up with that?

Ya know... I used to think you were really cool and considered you one of my friends... but now, I'm convinced you are just plain evil! I haven't had lunch yet and that cake and those cookies are killing me! Chocolate chip are my favorite cookie!!!

I'll try to overlook this torture Rhea, and keep my love for you strong... but it's gonna be tough.

Mrs Anne said...

Oh Rhea!
I love your realness.
I want to eat that cake and those cookies.
Your kids and husband?? adorable!

Happiest Friday to YOU Rhea!

Yum - that cake looks SO yummy. Don't waste it on yucky boys who won't appreciate it. Share it with all your blogger friends. I love caramel!

As for the hubby thing, that bugs me too. No one in my family reads my blog and it kind of hurts my feelings. But on the other hand, I can talk about them behind their backs and they'll never know - bwwaahhaahhaa.

Can I come to the birthday party so I can get a piece of that cake?

At least mail me a cookie?

I am sitting here starving and you go and throw chocolate chip cookies at me. Oh they are my weakness!

Happy Birthday to Remy!
Ah, I so know all the crazy stuff that happens with kids. Exactly one minute after you do something extremely nice for one of them they forget and give you grief about something else. My daughter, 24 with a son of her own now, is getting better but OMG some days when we all lived together last year I wanted to smack the freckles off her face. And my boy.... well, he's really just at that 15 year old I want to play guitar with the AMP plugged in OR shrink brain cells on Xbox live all night and weekend long.

You WANT your hubby to read your blog??? I'd be horried if mine came by too much. LOL He does know that I post nekkid pictures of him from time to time though and I think he secretly loves it. ;)

Mmmm.... choco chippers. YUM But I can't have any, I just ate my weight in hot soft pretzels.

Jill said...

Well you son sounds like my daughter! One minute sweet the next a terror of the mouth. Only 7 and she's already giving me nightmares. ;)
Happy Birthday to your son!

Actually, I did want to know all of this.

And girl...
Caramel cake is my favorite. Especially with good, homemade icing...that's creamy, not all granular and cooked right.

You. Me. Ida-Ho. Caramel Cake. All will be right with the world.

I want carmel cake. I did need to know all of this but I also need to know what happened to your pink locks, did it wash out?

Hey, you look pretty darn good first thing in the morning. And I'm sure that caramel cake recipe has a price on it ... name it ... Iet's see if we can't make a deal. Or ... can you bake one and send it to me? I can't believe your hubby doesn't peek in on the blog ... just to see what you're up to. And .. Happy Birthday to your son!

Great photos. Happy weekend.

Oh Rhea, that was awesome. I loved this post!

Your husband doesn't read? Does your sweet Grandma read? If not, post that recipe. Ok?

Cristin said...

The cake looks delish... and hubby isn't too bad either...

Denea said...

I can't decide which looks better, the cake or the cookies.

I'm afraid I'm a lot like Donny in the reminding and complaining later department. Lol. Have you ever pointed it out to him? Maybe you can hope for muttered, less audible comments if not an apology. ;)

I don't understand the husband thing, mine rarely reads my blog either so I'm going to stop making sweet and romantic posts to him anymore... lol
And I'm with Oh Mommy, if your grandmother doesn't read, can't we please have the recipe?!

Mama Dawg said...

You look much better first thing in the morning than I do.

Mama Dawg said...

Oh and does your grandmother make those and sell them at Mark's One Stop in MS? Cause if not, someone might know her receipe. Just sayin'....
