I grew up on a ranch here. My memories and my heart will always have a home in the country.
And this week, as we drive six hours to the Guadalupe River to swim and be with family, we will once again pass this familiar landmark...the fence of boots.
My mom stopped one year and took pictures, so here they are to share with you.
but fence art is pretty unusual.

Oh my stinkin heck. That is soooooooo cool. I have NEVER been to Texas, but that is just something that I would picture as only being in Texas. I guess here in Washington we could have a Birkenstock fence.
I am totally stealing your treasure hunt idea for this weekend!
Your boys are adorable, and look to be about the same age apart as mine!
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
that is just cool.
i wanted to stop by and check you out. i like it!

I hope you have a grat time at your family reunion. :) that sounds like a lot of fun. :)
xoxoxoxo
What a neat fence! What Ican see of hill country inthe back ground is gorgeous! I have only been to Texas once for a wedding in Killeen, but I even remember that was beautiful. Enjoy your family reunion.
That is fascinating! So this is a permanent fixture? People add to it? Very interesting.
I have only been to Texas once but loved it. Very interesting fence-great idea to take a picture of it.
Wow, that is just so neat!
But only in Texas I suppose. Here in NJ I would hate to think what people would display on a fence.... ?
Have a wonderful time! Can't wait to hear about it. :)
I've driven through a bit of Texas but I know I didn't get the full effect...
My fave boot is the 4th one down... I like the way the toe is curled around....
Man, I float the river every year and my parental units are in Austin (I'm just north of Htown). Where is this? I would love to scope it out.
Ok, now I want a boot-purse so baaaaad!!!
I had no idea they existed before this ...
That is very cool. I am over next to you in Louisiana...hey neighbor! :)
HAHAHAHAHA Got any pink boots to go with my cowgirl hat? :-P
HELLO :-)
I'm just at Mums, and popping on to say g'day to everyone, I haven't got time to catch up on all posts but I shall as soon as I get the internet back up and running!!!

Cool! I *think* I've seen that before!
Have fun on the Guadalupe! I wish I could go float the river.
LOL that's wonderful!
Btw I TAGGED YOU for a seriously fun one back at mine
I LOVE THESE PHOTOS
That is so cool!!
These are such great photos! I love it! The second photo should be a postcard.
That's wicked.
I like the blue one best!
So how do they decide who gets to put their boots out there? Is it just when the ranch owners get a new pair the old pair retires to the fence, or do you have to do something special to get you boot on a fence. I can just imagine all the ranching done in those boots.
Only in Texas, only in Texas.
Only in Texas...huh?!!!
There's something I've never seen before. A few ladies said something about floating the river? I'm going to have to look that up.
That is so cool! I don't have a favorite though...I think collectively it is fantastic.
Nice!!
BTW - I tagged you over at my blog:)
is this the equivalent of the bra trees you always see on the ski slopes? that's a lotta boots. guess they weren't made for walkin'.
LOL. What fancy fence art. I am bringing that trend to Ohio. We need mofre fence art in our neck of the woods. ;)
I will visit each and every one of your sites in return when I get back home. We're in the country now and Internet Connect isn't reliable. So, I may be able to check in once daily, but don't have time to visit all my favorite sites! Sorry!
THIS IS WHY I LOVE TEXAS!
There's some really cool boots on that fence.
Back home in NZ, one of the farmers down in the South Island had a Bra fence ...

My sister had a boot purse...eh. But I love that last boot picture the best. What an awesome fence!!
This is soooooooooooooooo Texas. I love it. They're all my faves!
Those are hilarious. Wish I knew the story behind it. And how it all got started. So very cool. And I think so very Texas...
My Great Aunt and Uncle have been doing this since they were married back in the 50's. The fence goes down their 1/2 mile driveway then they started putting them along the road when the driveway fence was full.
ultra cool. How about barbed wire wreaths??My girl friend sells those and on them horshoes boots etc..
I've been down to the Guadalupe myself a few times and I have never seen the fence 'o boots. That's really cool! Hope you had a great time with your family.
Oh the cool Guadalupe! Love it down there and love the boots! My fav is the last red one. Going this weekend to the Schlitterbahn, so maybe on the road......
Looks like the weather well though. :)
Oh, I miss Texas so much!!!
Rhea,
This is awesome. Only in Texas would a boot fence happen.
