Who's using Whom?

My boys have a five-year age difference,
which has its benefits and disadvantages.

For the longest time, they didn't fight.

They do now.

At 11 and 6 years old, they have power struggles, but are also good buddies.

I've noticed that my older son, Donny, thinks that Remy is his personal servant.
He attempts to bribe his little brother to run make him drinks or do other things.
I have to double-check to make sure they're being fair to each other.

I've shared with you how much we love this video game, right?
Well, we have to take equal turns playing.
And I noticed that Donny kept weaseling playtime out of Remy's turn.
And I grew concerned.
I don't want him taking advantage of his little brother.

Then I discovered that Remy was actually the one taking advantage.
He was using his big brother complete the hard parts of the game...
so he could enjoy his own turn better.

He's a smart little bugger.
I'm not as worried anymore.

At least, not about that.

I've got plenty else to worry about.

(don't miss yesterday's post of silly family antics in short video clips!)

Hah, it's good to know that it's not always the younger ones being taken advantage of. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!!!!!!

Remy might just be the one to watch out for!

Oh, my! You have described my own 6 and 11 year old boys exactly! They really are best buddies, and the fights are minimal (usually over super minor things), but my 11 year old has definitely started using his little brother as his servant - and we always send him back to tell his brother if he wants something, to come ask for it himself!

Those power issues are what will help them later in life. They work it out with each other and then will be able to deal with people in the outer world with a little more savvy.

My girls are 3 years apart. And Madalyn is clearly in charge. She gets Katie to do everything for her. From cleaning. To doing the hard parts in the games.

They don't have that game for wii. I looked. But one that we are all addicted to is Sims Castaway. But there is no way to save for multiple players. We all just play and then don't save it :-)

Little siblings should not be underestimated...

Shane has two brothers... there is a 5 year difference between each one. So that means there's a 10 year difference between Shane (the oldest) and his youngest brother. There were not close at all, growing up. But they're close now.

My first two sons have a 5 year gap and this sounds sooo familiar!

My girls are 3 years apart. 11 and 8. And they fight like cats and dogs. But they do get along and play together for the most part. Fun times :)

Me and my sister, 16 months apart and fought like cats. Now we are better but she lives in the UK!

That's so cool that the young guy got to win out for once! :) (This comes from someone who had an older sister who took advantage of her many times when we were younger.)

He is a smart little bugger... no need for any worry about him!

As the younger sister in the family, you have to be smarter than your older siblings in order to survive:-)

He's smaller so he needs to compensate with cunning.

Ditto to what Mama Dawg said.

p.s. Today I filled out my 2009 wall calendar (it's--Ahem--Cullen-centric!) and in April I wrote Ida-Ho. And I thought of you, with a big ol' smile on my face. Then I prayed, "Dear God, please don't let her run screaming from us..." Because I know how we are...and I do not want you to be fearful.

OK, now I've scared you. No worries, my friend. Just bring your pink hat. Or else.

I've no clue what Lula is talking about but I MUST be involved. I also agree, Remy is the force to be reckoned with

My own kids were close together, so there wasn't too much chance for those sort of dynamics. However, my daughter definitely ruled the roost as far as her three brothers were concerned. They were very protective of her, including her twin bro who was 8 mins older, and boy, did she take advantage of that.
