The little things do matter...a LOT.

I've never been tagged before for a MEME because I'm relatively new to the blogosphere (only been here a few months). I previously made fun of them and mentioned they make me feel like a third grader playing tag and hoping to get picked. But, now that I've been chosen, I guess I have to participate. hehe

What is a MEME? I had no idea. This is a foreign word to me, so I had to look it up. First of all, it's supposed to be pronounced like "Meem" but apparently a lot of people say it "Mem-may" (the mem like mem-ory). The definition goes something like this: A unit of cultural information, such as a cultural practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another. It comes originally from the Greek word "mimema" which means "something imitated."

So, on with the fun. I was tagged by April, who isn't afraid to laugh till she snorts, and you should check out her blog, Thoughts in My Tumuluous Brain.

The Rules:

1. Link back to the person who tagged you.

2. Post these rules on your blog.

3. Share six unimportant things about yourself.

4. Tag six random people at the end of your entry.

Here we go, folks:

Unimportant Thing #1: I was up until past 1am last night watching Season 2 of the TV show HOUSE on DVD.

My husband and I recently started watching this show, and we're totally obsessed. I don't watch much TV, but I have a few shows I DVR. I don't normally stay up so late, but my hubby talked me into it. I finally had to give in and go to sleep mid-episode. BTW, I have a huge crush on Hugh Laurie's character in this show, Dr. Greg House. If you've never seen this show, go rent Season 1! It's hilarious, insightful, maddening, dramatic, and chock full of medical speak.

Unimportant Thing #2: I ended up having a little party in the closet around 4am.

After falling asleep after 1am sometime, I was jerked out of a deep sleep when our town tornado sirens went off at 4am. (Do the math, that's less then three hours of sleep people!) I'm up and out of bed with a speed that rivals my friend Josh in high school (he ran around a 4 minute mile people!). We're waking the boys and the dog and all hurrying into the master closet (which is larger than the entire apartment we lived in for five years previous to this recent move). Our power is out, so this is all done in the dark.

Adrenaline is rushing through my system. I am picturing a torndao bearing down on our house at any moment in the dark...it sounded like armageddon outside with constant, nonstop, shock and awe thunder and lightning. You know how you're supposed to count between the lightening and thunder to see how far apart they are? No counting in between, folks. The storm was on top of us.
It was a fast moving storm though, and within 30 minutes or so, it was gone and we all headed back to bed, which leads us to...

Unimportant Thing #3: Pokemon were in my bed last night, and I almost committed murder on an electrical object this morning.

The kids were scared and wanted to stay in my room. So, MY bed was once again occupied by two kids, a large yellow lab, myself and the hubby. I have proof...see this pillow that took up squatter's rights between me and hubby?

If you've been living under a rock for the last 10 years or so, that's Pikachu and other Pokemon. This is getting close to 5am now. Remember, I fell asleep originally around 1am, woke up at 4am, and now I need to wake up at 6:30am...However, due to the power outage and batteries gone bad, my alarm clock doesn't go off. When I wake up well after 7AM, I feel like taking a hammer and doing this:

Unimportant Thing #4: I injure myself.

As I rush around the house trying to get kids get dressed, I managed to step onto an entire Greek mythology unit on the floor outside the kids' rooms. Monsters, Gods and Heros were battling it out epically through the night, apparently. My foot really, really hurt. We won't mentioned the words I spewed at this point.

Unimportant Thing #5: When in rush, it is inevitable that I will see a lot of things that need to be done and start to feel totally overwhelmed.

I head to the kitchen to make the kids lunches. I avoid looking at my sink, which is full of dishes from the night before. Some nights I can do dishes before bed...some nights I can't. I'm ashamed to show you my sink but here it is:

I finally get the kids in the car and start backing out the driveway, when I realize all my neighbors have their trash and recycling bins out on the street. Oh, dagnabit. It's trash day! I have to run back in the garage to bring out our bins. We're starting to run even more behind!

Unimportant Thing #6: Annie is desperate to go with me in the morning to drop off the boys at school, and she likes to surprise me.

When Annie, our sweet, sweet lab, sees us putting on shoes and jackets, she knows a car ride is in the works. She starts following us around, giving us the big, sad puppy eyes. If we use the word "GO" she goes wild! She starts whining and jumping around and running through the house. I can't say no to that, so I get her leash, which has her even more excited, because now she knows she's scored a ride in the car, one of her favorite things. Here's the leash that leads to her excitement:

and here's the surprise I found when I returned home to do dishes and clean up menacing Greek figures on the floor. Annie threw up next to her bed. Lovely. Guess who will be cleaning this up after she does dishes?

So, there you have it. My six unimportant things with a twist (in story-form, from my morning). I've just completed my first MEME. Who should I tag? I bet anyone I tag has probably done this before, so I apologize in advance. And, if you don't end up completing this meme, it won't hurt my feelings (although, this is my first one ever and my first tagging ever, so no pressure, guys!)

I TAG:

1. Tearese, with the blog Trees with Leaves, has some cute kids, really knows how to draw and isn't your average shoe nut, but has some really colorful footwear!

2. Nancy, at the blog Losing Our Shirts, Keeping the Farm, lives on a pre-civil war farm, raises Icelandic sheep and is currently running a sheep maternity ward in anticipation of "Lamb-a-palooza" and suffering from "sheep apnea."

3. Andrea, with Miles Away, has five kids, lives in Germany, and is surrounded by houses with lace-wanna be curtains.

4. Kat, at Sunshine and Lemonade, is away on a cruise right now, but she teaches Latin (one of my favorite subjects), has an amazing backyard with woods and a creek, reads voraciously and didn't realize that getting married meant softball playing on request.

5. Susan, with Short on Words, has three boys, lives in a beautiful part of the country, is a really cheap date and an incredible photographer. I lust after her photos.

6. Jeff, at A Word in Edgewise, torments cats by making loud noises at them, mumbles when he's angry, uses every pan in the house when he cooks, and has a wicked sense of humor.

I LOVE Memes!!! Should I be all sad and cry that I am not in this one?? Na, not at all, cause I just did 2 separate lists of 100 things and no one wants to hear more I am SURE! LOL
Wow, tornado sirens. That is really scary.
My sink is usually worse. Theres just a bit of your countertop in the photo but I think I love it! Mine is so light that everything shows.

Ew. Surprise puppy puke is not something that I miss.

Oooh, brilliant - a meme told in story format using current life situation. you go, girl!!

Sorry 'bout your lousy night's sleep - sirens in the dark hours don't exactly inspire the stuff of sweet dreams.

Thanks for tagging me, but how 'bout if Crystalchick takes my place??? I love posting photos, but the thought of creating lists and using words makes me stress, and worry, and feel pressure, and break out in hives. No, not really that bad. But almost ... words aren't my thing. ;-) I think I did do one of these things back in my early blog days, but I hated it so much I swore not to repeat it!

But yours? Very well executed!!! :-)

Thanks for tagging me! I did a similar post a while back already, but here is the link to it:

I loved your storm picture, by the way.
Oh, and my husband used to watch Pokemon when we first got married. My favorite voice to imitate on the cartoon is "Corfish".

ps. I LOVE LOVE LOVE House. phenomenal actors writing team for that show...

oh yeah, and thanks for looking up "Meme" I always wondered where that came from. I pronounced it "Mem" as in the first part of memory.

memes are always fun. I love learning about people

My son has all those Heroscape mythology things too.

My rat dog loves to go on "rides" to pick up the boy. She whines and whines.

I'm glad we don't have tornado's here.

Are you ME? Or am I YOU?
1. That is my sink 9and I have no children to blame it on, just me and hubby)
2. That is my trash (running out the morning of, either me or D, to fling it at the curb)
3. That is my yellow lab (well mine has an extra part, heh heh...but he is always puking up water everywhere! Or tinkling if he has to go BAD and isn't outside!)

Thanks for doing my meme! LOL

Crystalchick - I've never lived somewhere that have tornado sirens before, so I almost pee in my pants now everytime I hear them. My countertop is a very pretty granite pattern that I love.

Dawn - I totally agree with you about surprise puppy puke. Never a good thing to stumble upon...although I've noticed if it is nice and chunky, she will clean it up herself later in the day. hehe

Susan - I just took a long nap this afternoon to make up for my lack of sleep last night. The boys have Spanish after school today so I was able to get away with it. No problem if you don't want to do it, I totally understand!! I'll see if Crystalchick is interested...

Susan - One more thing, I don't want you to break out in hives! You do VERY well with your "words aren't my thing" style on your blog, so keep that up! :o)

Tearese - I will go check out the link in a second. I figured most people had done this or something like it, but I had to try! I didn't actually take that storm picture. Most pictures on the website are mine but I have to add extras sometimes. That's funny your husband watched Pokemon!

Rhea said...

Susan - I'm with you on House. The writers are freaking hilarious!!

Tearese - I had to look up MEME because I was seeing it everywhere and had no idea what it really meant. Glad I'm not the only one.

Motherhood for Dummies - thanks for reading and commenting! It was my first meme ever.

Burfica - that's so cool your son has those also! My son is SO into mythology right now. You have a rat dog...hehe

Rhea said...

April - I have a hubby, two boys and an elderly father who live with me...so between all of us, we can REALLY pile up the dishes. My dad tries to help and do dishes a lot...but he ends up breaking some...or putting them away in places I can never find them! He's a sweetie though for helping.

I think I'm you...or wait, you're me...:o)

CrystalChick said...

Yes, darling... I will fill in for Susan. :) Her pictures are terrific. Who needs words??
Anyhoo... wander by my page sometime and make sure I do the Meme! I'm usually really good responding in decent time but have a few craft fairs coming up so I"ll be posting in between work.
Peace, M

Mary (aka CrystalChick) - thanks for filling in for Susan! I'll check back with you and see if you did it. :o)

um tornado? terrifying. that's why i live in california :)

glad everything is okay!

great post. welcome to "House". watching TV on DVD is the way to go. much more succinct. I'm doing Heroes.

Rhea said...

KP - tornados terrify me. WHen I am super stressed, I have dreams about them following me no matter where I go. It's horrible! We never really had tornado problems in Austin, but where we live now seems to have more issues with them...hence the tornado sirens throughout the city. They do a siren test every first Saturday of the month and I still wet my pants when I hear it...much less at 4am. That scared the Sh*t out of me!!

Rhea said...

Uberburber - I love watching TV through DVD. You can just go from episode to episode lickity split. I really like Heros...but it's been on hiatus for a while. I wonder when it's due to start back again?

This is hilarious. Very funny post. I don't think I've ever before heard anyone confess to nearly murdering an electric object. Bad about the storm, though. I'm glad everything was ok.

My Two Army Brats said...

We just started to watch House this season and decided to buy season one and two on dvd. We got through season one before my husband got stolen from me 6 weeks earlier than planned compliments of the wonderful Army life we lead! He took season one with him and is re-watching them. As soon as he gets home at the end of May we will squeeze in season two and then buy season three.

Pokemon are everywhere in my house too. My 6 yr old wanted pokemon cards from santa. Well this santa decided that little tiny pokemon characters would be better than just cards. Santa also bid on two pokemon figure auctions on accident and wone both on ebay. Santa brought 126 mini pokemon that are now missing various parts of their bodies! Darn santa anyway! Cards would have been easier!

Rhea said...

Erin - I think I've come close to murdering lots of electronic devices, but if I told ya then I'd have to kill ya. :o)

My Boys are Army Brats - Boy can I relate about the Pokemon stuff. We have so many cards and figures. I think the boys are finally growing out of them some...but never fully. I used to know all their names, but not anymore.

I'm sorry your hubby was whisked away earlier than he was supposed to. I can't imagine how disappointing that must have been. How long will he be gone?

Jules said...

Well funnily enough I just did this blog and posted it today! I always thought that it meant something like "me, me", as in the post is about "me".
Moving on........ I LOVE House. In fact, I had such a shock when I heard Hugh Laurie speak with his true British accent. Dang! That guy is GOOD.
And my house is covered with Pokemon too! My boys love it. Here's a little known fact - Pokemon is short for Pocket Monster. Cool, huh?

Rhea said...

Jules - Thanks for coming by! How funny you just did the same meme. I'll go by your blog in a minute and check it out. I thought meme was about the "me" too. Who knew?

I heard Hugh Laurie was British but I haven't heard him speak yet. It's weird to think of people having to work on American accents to act here. He IS good.

I did know about the poket monster thing...crazy pokemon fanatics here, remember? lol It's a funny name though. I think the show is cute. I dreaded my boys getting into it but once I watched it and checked it out, I decided it wasn't so bad.

There is no pain like standing on Greek Mythology!

Anonymous said...

Rhea, we went through the same storm. Our power was out for 6 hours, and even though we didn't have to worry too much about tornadoes I couldn't sleep, although hubby and child slept through the entire storm - men.

Rhea said...

VBF - Thanks for stopping by! The dog puke, sweet? ICK!!

Lorna - You're hilarious! No pain like standing on Greek mythology.lol I'm going to remember that one.

Southern Goddess - (whose name I just love typing) that storm was vicious!! I think my hubby and kids could sleep through most storms too, but I always woke up and hear them.

Thanks for comin' by!
