Temptation Foiled Again & Again

Every time we get in the car to go somewhere, he begs me for this. Every time I'm getting in the car to go somewhere without him, he asks me for one. He is relentless in his pursuit of caffeine and carbonated goodness. Empty calories, I say. Too much sugar. No vitamins and minerals.

It's doesn't matter what I saw. He wants one. ALWAYS. How do I curb his desire? We have a rule: ONLY ON FRIDAYS. And, only ONE on that day. Yet, somehow, every now and then, one creeps in when it wasn't supposed to. I give in, I cave. I try, but I'm not perfect.
ONLY ON FRIDAYS.

Donny loves Dr Pepper.
My elderly father told me that HIS father bought stock in Dr Pepper back in the 1930's or '40s, so anytime he bought a soft drink, he bought Dr Pepper to help his dad's stock.
Too bad we don't still have that stock, huh?!
Then maybe it wouldn't ONLY BE ON FRIDAYS!
By the way, Dr Pepper was invented IN TEXAS!!

Tell him you can clean a cars battery with it and maybe that will discourage the need for Cokesm and Dr. Pepper. :)

Oh the cravings of kids. I gotta say, though, that Diet Caffeine Free Dr. Pepper tastes pretty good. Not that I would EVER encourage more soda comsumption. :)

We have doughnut day on the first of every month because we used to pass a Winchell's every day on the way home from school. It was too much for them to get that they weren't good for them and we couldn't stop every day.

I agree with All Things Bad - Diet Dr. Pepper!! I buy it because my husband won't steal it. It's yummy!

Man I love Dr. Pepper. My big addiction is to Coke. I can't break the habit. I have no help for you...

I feel your pain. I cannot tell you how many Coke Zeroes I go through in a day. And I let my kids have one soda a day...but they usually pick diet...not that that is much better. But...diet Dr. Pepper used to be the only diet drink I could tolerate...

Well, you guys are no help!! LOL I used to be addicted as well, but I finally quit back in November...so, wow, I guess I've been soft drink free for seven and half months!! Amazing. Remy doesn't ask for them much, but Donny wants them all the time. I don't keep them in the house anymore, thank goodness hubby finally agreed to that.

BTW, Dr Pepper was INVENTED in TEXAS!!

Have him try it...it's actually really good! WAY better than Diet Coke! :)

Well that's my only suggestion...good luck!

I don't have much help for you either. I'm a recovering Coca-Cola addict. 6.5 months sober! Ha ha! Now my vice is a Venti Hot Chocolate from Starbucks. Well, I've moved down from a venti to a grande. Baby steps.

Mr. Pibb
Similar, right?
I took a water. Sometimes I'm in the mood for soda but guess I'm a root beer girl.

I'll have to make a special trip to the US just to taste Dr Pepper!

That is amazing that you have been soft drink free for so long. I just can't imagine. And I'm like chatti patti...love diet coke from the fountain. We were most helpful, weren't we?!

Oh...we are thinking about a big road trip on Thursday...or maybe Wednesday to the Blue Bell place. And maybe a stop in Austin on the way back. But...nothing for sure...

I LOVE Dr Pepper. I do try not to drink more than a couple a week though. I don't think we get Diet Dr Pepper in the UK. I've certainly never seen it. I think I might have to complain!!

In my teens (my god that sounds like it was centuries ago!!) I used to practically live on Dr P!!
(Yes, it is here in Australia too!!) But I found too much does have a negative affect on one's belly lol!!!
What about letting him over indulge on it?
Give him a huge gut ache - possibly make him very ill... Might even miss school on monday... but maybe getting sick on it will turn him off?
I'm no real help. I'll binge then get over it for months or even longer.
But...I've been preggas for the last 2 years, so.. 2 glasses of soft drink is a binge for me lol!

Oh, I am a CocaCola addict, BUT . . . I have my own personal rituals when driving to certain out-of-town antique places that require - REQUIRE - a Dr Pepper along the way. I even have to buy them at specific places. If heading to Frankston, nothing will do but that I stop at the Blue Store in Noonday.

Love your blog - I'll be back!

I can't believe there's no Dr Pepper in Australia!

Mr Pibb is super yummy also, very close to Dr Pepper.

I've never been to the Blue Bell Ice Cream place...I really should go. Is that in Brenham?
