It's all about bribery

When researching the origins of Halloween, you find out about the Celts from 2000 years ago, celebrating Samhain, who lit bonfires and wore costumes and masks of animal heads and skin.

Then there's the Christian's All Saints Day and All-Hallows...

but it was in the early 1900's in America that the tradition turned more into what we have now.
They started having vandalism issues around that time during Halloween,
so they started offering kids bribes or treats to keep them from causing mischief on Halloween night.

BRIBERY.

That's what you're doing when kids come to your door.
You're giving them a bribe not to destroy your property.

Wow.

For me, Halloween is about having fun with my family.
Using our imaginations and dressing up.
Getting togeher with family to eat and give out candy.
Carving pumpkins.

It's fun.

I haven't really done much of the Haunted houses or scary stuff, but I think that stuff is fine.

Ants are Allergic to Cucumbers

I read this somewhere.

That if you have an ant problem you're supposed to cut a cucumber
and lay it near where they're entering your home.

I haven't tested it though.

I don't have an ant problem.

Yet.

Hopefully never.

And that's all I have to say.

Because every time I sit down to write or blog or tweet...
I feel like whatever I have to say is stupid

Sad but true.
That's my funk for now.

Most Searched For Word Ever

I use Site Meter to keep track of how many hits my blog gets a day/week/month.
And what words or links send people to my site.

And the most searched for word that sends people to my site?

Believe it or not, it was one of the most searched for words over a year ago (on my blog) as well!

WEIRD!!

The word is:   Scalene.

It's a triangle with no equal sides and no equal angles.

This is my post mentioning Scalene Triangles.  The original post that started it all.

Morning, Sunshine!

I'm not a coffee drinker.
I've never really had trouble popping out of bed in the morning, until I hit my 30's.

Now, I drink hot tea every morning to get going.

At different times in my life I've had jobs I loved going to every morning,
so getting up and going was no problem, I was ready to tackle my day.

Lately, I just tired.

We've been keeping a busy schedule here, with both boys in sports and lots of school activities...
and family meals and inspiring movies, etc.

When I wake up in the morning, I need motivation.
I never needed it before.
But, here I am now, and I need it.

So, what do I do?

I grab my iPhone, sit on the couch with a warm blanket and I check my email, check Facebook and check in on a few games I play.

It's strange, I know.
But, I say, something it's good not to be so judgmental and to just go with what works.

I'd like to start walking now that the weather is cooler.
or wake up by writing some morning pages.

How do you wake up?
What do you do?
What gets you going?

Temptation

Apples, apples everywhere and not a drop to drink!

I think it's really lame that getting kicked out of the Garden of Eden was blamed on Eve.
I mean, Adam needs to take some personal responsibility for the fact that he ate the apple too.

Taking personal responsibility is a huge problem with the world right now.
Everyone wants to blame everyone else for their problems.

However, this blog is not about lecturing others or stepping on a soapbox.
It's a place for me to express my creativity, to admit addictions, explore temptation and have fun.

When I enter a grocery store, I'm drawn to the fruits and vegetables.
I like to surreptitiously whip out my iPhone and snap a photo...like the one above of the apples.

That's weird right?

Do you have a weird habit like that?

and, why, why, why does the new Blogspot photo up-loader turn my iPhone photos SIDEWAYS?!!
I can't figure it out!
Anyone know how to fix this issue?

Wristbands, night scopes & a racehorse

We drove to a part of town we don't normally visit.
My bag was searched.
We were given wristbands for total access.
And, we were warned that they would be using a night scope during the viewing.

What am I talking about?

Thanks to being part of the BlogHer network,
my boys and I were able to go see an early screening of
the new Disney movie Secretariat last night for free!

It was amazing!!

Very exciting and inspirational.

Plus, we enjoyed the experience of getting to do something a little extra special.

We were in a HUGE movie theater, got to sit in the "reserved" rows

and enjoyed an INCREDIBLE movie for free.

Thanks, Disney!  Thanks, BlogHer!!

I was part of the Chain Gang last night

I volunteered for it.

I know, I know, it sounds like something bad...

it wasn't.

It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot.

OK, I held the down indicator sign/placard thingy on the sidelines of my son's middle school football game. Three parents help every game to assist the refs with measuring downs and keeping up with what down it is and marking the line of scrimmage.

It was my first time ever...and I learned a lot QUICKLY.

I had a great view of the action.
I heard the awful things the coaches mutter.
I heard the players trash talk.

I really heard the hits...and grimaced every time.

But, best of all?

I got to stare at a cute referree's hiney the whole game!

hehe
