I have a whole new view of Canadians

The most vivid image I was left with after Friday night was a guy flying over wheat fields and flannel-wearing, tattoo-covered, grunge fiddling tap dancers.

Canada, you are strange, but in a friendly-dorky kind of way.

I was kind of disappointed Celine Dion didn't end up naked in a maple syrup fountain.

The indigenous dancers had to dance for an hour straight. Because we haven't done enough to them by taking their land and such.

And slam poetry? Wow. That was unique!!

Overall, it was a bizarre event, and really, really long.

Canadians are either really deep...or really high. Not sure which.

and all that money (30-40 Million!)  spent on the opening ceremony could have gone to something more impressive...like helping Haiti or some other third-world country.

That would have said a lot more, in my book.

But, I love the Olympics! And I love reading all the twitter commentary on it.

My mama is an Olympic nut so I have seen some weird mess over the years, let me tell you.

But the older I get the more I love dorks - probably because I am one. Go Canada (slogan: More Than America's Hat)!!

This early-to-bed Canadian stayed up late and watched the whole thing. It was long, drawn out and I was disappointed. For me, the best part was the animated whales swimming across the stadium. There were some great moments, but altogether too few. Still, in the spirit of the games, it was fun to know my whole family and friends all across the country were joined in the excitement. Go Canada!

It definitely was interesting...

I'll say this much, I've never wanted to visit Canada before, but now I do. I guess they accomplished their goal of promoting their country :)

But yeah, no Celine Dion? Isn't she pretty much the most famous Canadian ever? :)

It was the most diverse opening ceremonies I have witnessed.

Would you believe I have never even watched The Olympics? No one in my household cares about it, so I, in respect, never cared either...

I loved it, like you especially the guy flying over the wheat fields to Clouds - beautiful. I also wondered where Celine was, my theory they're saving her for the closing ceremony.

We are also enjoying it all.

It was really interesting! I loved the guy in the wheat fields the most probably. I really love watching the Olympics but skipped parts of the opening ceremony...whoops!

I watched and am still not sure how I feel. I, too, am beginning to think that the cost of creating opening ceremonies that are better than the previous country's (is that an Olympic contest, as well?) is totally unnecessary. Introduce the athletes and begin the games. Use the money for the hungry and those truly in need.

And, yet, I'm a hypocrite because I really did enjoy the Indigenous Dancers.

Canada and Canadians are beautiful. I'm glad to be a part of it. I hope you all get to experience it one day. Each province is extremely different though, don't judge purely base on Vancouver.
