I'm so PROUD of my son Donny right now.
He's 11 years old and in the 6th grade.
His first year of middle school.
And he made the Honor Roll
with all A's.

He also told me that he would like to be a younger brother.
Curious, I thought. Why?
Turns out he'd like an older sister...
so he could read her diary and torment her with the info.

Here he is shaking his middle school principal's hand as he receives an award.
An award called the Lion's Pride Award.
When we received this letter in the mail last week, we were so surprised...
and so PROUD!

This is the beginning of our second year in this north Texas town.
The first year was hard on Donny.
He had good grades and did ok, but wasn't very happy.
He missed his old school and friends in Austin.
I don't blame him.
But, I think he's finally settling in here.
Look, a bumper sticker came with this special award.
heehee
(nope, not going on my car, sorry, although it's a nice quote)

Part of me is sad he is growing up so fast, but mainly I'm enjoying the person he's becoming.
He's such a great kid.
He saved up his money to buy a gun, he's learning to play the trombone & he's playing football.
He's smart too...
despite trying to walk down a flight of stairs wearing roller skates and holding a plate of food.
It wasn't pretty, folks.
Have you ever sneaked a peak at someone's diary?
Did you keep a diary yourself?

I think my blog is my diary right now. I used to keep a journal in college. I hope my mom didn't read those. I tried to use code words so she wouldn't know what I was writing. I bet it could all be decoded pretty easily. I was pretty lazy about it.
Yea for Donny! That is awesome! Also, way to go for the school having those bumpber stickers rather than the lame 'My kid is an HS at blah, blah, blah'.
I don't think I have ever read a diary that wasn't mine. I don't have one now b/c I have a blog. ;)
That's so awesome, and you SHOULD be proud! Caroline came home yesterday with a Perfect Attendance award for the first 9 weeks, and was thrilled.
I'm just happy when I don't get letters from our middle school saying Matthew's gotten a Saturday School.....
Good for him! Tell him congrats from strangers in bloggy land!
That's awesome that he's still getting those kinds of grades in middle school. It only gets harder the further you go.
I had a diary that I wrote in for like 3 days. Then I quit. I was too busy flirting w/guys.
I only read ones w/permission. Never snuck a peek!
Pshaaa! I read my sister's diary every day after she left for school. She was mean!
Yeah! That is awesome! Congratulations to your son! Tell him he should really focus on science classes, though, if he really wants to figure out how to get an older sister!
Go, Donny, GO!!! That's soooo awesome!
WOW!!! Yeah for him!! You SHOULD be proud.
I've read my mom's journal... it was... boring.
My blogs are my diaries...
I DO keep dairy for myself. Love a good glass of milk.
I can just see your mother's heart beaming from across cyber space! Way to go Donny!
I've never kept a diary, and would totally peek in on one if given teh opportunity :)
Super great congratulations for Donny. What a great kid.
He wants an older sister...yeah, see if you can figure that one out for him Rhea!!!
I suppose my Blog is my diary, but I also have personal writings locked on my laptop.
I have a bumper sticker that says my kid beat up your honor roll student...some of my kid's are on that side of the fence.

Your Donny really is a neat guy. (I wanted to say kid, but some how it didn't fit him anymore.) You have every right and should feel very proud of him.
I have read my husband's diaries when he's told me to. He kept one while we were dating. I love that I can go back and read that time in our lives from his perspective. I kept a diary in high school. It is painful for me to read. What a boy crazy, fickle twerp I was. UGH.
blog=diary diary=blog
reading mine/reading yours
think we are all guilty here.
but do i keep the book form?
no because I am reading at night to go to sleep. And who would I have to read? So not guility.
Congrats on the honor roll Donny!
Yay, Donny! Congratulations on the award! And for playing the trombone! That's a great instrument, and hard to play well, so mass kudos to you.
I've never read someone else's diary. My blog is sort of my own.
Congrats to Donny ... way to go! And to mom and dad ... you're raising a wonderful young man and you should be proud!
I keep my diary in my head. It would be too dangerous and embarrassing to actually put my thoughts in print and risk someone reading it.
My blog is part diary I guess. But when I decided to start my blog I told myself that I would keep it positive and encouraging. This is hard because I like to whine about stuff. But I thought if I focused more on the sunshine and less on the storm clouds it might do wonders for my overall mood. And ya know what? It does. I still want to keep it real, but I like myself better when I don't complain.
Perhaps Donny would like a diary of his own?
that is so awesome, I can see why you are so proud.
Yes, I have sneaked a peak on someone diary but I am not going to say who...
The wanting to read a big sister's diary made me think of The Brady Bunch!
I kept a diary for years, junior high through most of college, then stopped... now blogging..
Hah. Stairs, skates, food...no not good.
But congrats on his progress...awesome!!
I kept journals for years. I don't even know where they are now. I hope I burned them.
Oh this is sooooooooo bad, but one of my supervisors from the past, had a brother I worked with. Both of us, weren't too happy with her, he brought in her diary and we read it! Yes we did and she was not too happy when I told her about it! I've grown up since those 7 years!! hee hee
Your son is too funny! what does he think he will read?
and yes I had a diary for one year, didn't write in it too much.
Oh but I did have a little black book, hee hee
He is a genius, of course. Congrats, Donny!
I kept a diary in junior high and you couldn't pay me a million dollars to go back and read through the angst I suffered back then. OK, I would for a million--but I'd have to have the cash upfront.
Does Annie keep a diary? I'd love to hear her thoughts on a variety of subjects.
Woohoo Donny! Way to go!
I guess I am a little abnormal. I never had a diary (unless you count my blog) and I have never took a peak into someone else's diary (unless you are counting blogs -if so, then every day :).
Great job Donny!!
I used to keep a diary but now, my blog is my journal:-)
I had a diary as a little girl but my brother is 8 yrs older and probably could have cared less about my stupid diary. Hmmmm or did he care??? Interesting. Maybe I'll ask him.
- Jennifer
Oh congrats to him! How great! And yes I've read my friends diary a long time ago--and we laughed and laughed. She got mad but that's ok. She got over it!
I always wanted to keep a diary. I had several. That I might have written in once. And then lost interest. Because I truly had nothing to say. I am amazed at myself for keeping up with the blogging. Since I still don't have that much to say :-)
And I still say that Donny should pretend Katie's blog is that diary he so wants to read...
I actually don't think I've ever read anyone's diary. And, well, my diary is my blog, I guess.. So everybody reads it. :)
I had a diary when I was little... I'd say more of a journal, than a "Dear Diary,"... and I kept a journal (well, several of them) all through high school.
I started another one a few days before I gave birth to my oldest daughter back in 2001. I don't write in it as much as I used to, but I wanted to make note of things the girls did or said, or things we've done... maybe one day they'll get a kick out of reading it.
That's awesome! My 10 year old just came home with his report card today...all a's one b. Then we opened his sisters. Um, not so much. Let me tell you about uncomfortable conversations...going from jumping up and down to saying, "well, we may need to work on this a bit." Sigh...
My blog is my diary and I feel like I'm peaking at diaries every time I read blogs which makes it even more fun!
Way to go, Donny!!!
I have kept diaries on and off, I guess my blog in an online diary now.
And no, I didn't peek. Too scared I might find out something that I couldn't keep a secret.
Hello,
you just made yourslef a new reader and I would like to return here?
Best wishes
Go Donny! It's yer birthday! Not really! But hope you get something nicey!
Congrats, Donny. Stay off those stairs with rollerblades and food.
And, yes, I have snuck a peek. And I DIDn't keep it to myself. It was my step sisters and it revealed she was having sexual relations. So of course I rated her out. I was a JERk.
Congrats to your Donny! He's off to a great start for this year! Good job!
Honor roll! Smartie pants. Yay!
Honor roll - congrats!
As for the diary, I have sneaked a peak at my husband's emails--which is really his diary because he has these 3 friends he writes to every day, from fart and sports stuff to thoughts etc--
I am ashamed to say that when I cracked his password (mostly by hovering over whenever he signed in) I would log in and check to see if he was hiding something. I know, I know, it's bad. But I confessed!
And now keep doing it out in the open justified by the principle that he should have no secrets form his wife (kidding)!
Hooray for Honor Roll!
I used to keep a diary until my mom read it once and royally pissed me off so I stopped keeping one.
And now I just keep a blog instead!
Congrats. That's such great news. Tell him we are all proud of him.
I kept a diary when I was younger, but they've all since been destroyed. Now I blog.
Pretty sure I sneak peeks at a lot of diaries everyday.
I've tried to journal but never follow through.
Congrats to your little one!
Congrats to Donny! My mom read my diary once. It was NOT pretty, it was quite awful actually.
Well Done , Donny !!!!
You must be so proud of him and hat bumper sticker really should be on your car!!! It' such a great quote :-)
Congratulations to you as well, for being such a good parent. Some of the kudos for his success , also need to go to you and his Dad...
Yea Donnie!!!!
Congrats, Donny!
Way to go Donny! I think I misspelled his name 2 comments ago. Sorry.
My blog is my diary of sorts, but I do write personal stuff in a private format also. However, my blog sees way more action from me.
