Is there a Magician in your Kitchen?

It's that time again. Time for a GIVEAWAY!!



What am I giving away?
You'll see...

but first, a quick recipe share

I have family in Louisiana and spent many summers and holidays in Baton Rouge.
One of my favorite dishes from that area is Jambalaya.

Meet the players:


chicken breasts, sausage, diced tomatoes, french onion soup, cream of celery soup
and a special jambalaya rice mix.





I special order this stuff and won't cook jambalaya with any other mix.
I'm a jambalaya snob.



I'm not going into details of the cooking,
but just know that I had to cut up sausage while the chicken cooked.



Opened all the cans and got them ready



Chicken's almost done



then you take the chicken out and put all the other stuff in.




Here it is about halfway through cooking:


This is my handy-dandy magnetic timer. I love it and can't cook without it.
It lives on my refrigerator.



While everything is cooking, I had to cut up the chicken.



Here is Annie on the kitchen floor...she may or may not be ready to pounce on any chicken scraps that might have been purposefully dropped fallen on the floor.



I know, Annie, it smells soooooo good.
You're such a beautiful girl.



It's done and should feed a whole family no problem.

Well, I don't really cook. I'm currently trying to weasel out of hosting Thanksgiving Dinner. I'm a super picky eater and I'm sure it's great... but you wouldn't catch me eating that... So don't pick me.

Hmmmmm - my favorite food to cook for a group... delivery pizza? Hotdogs? Actually - when we have a big group over we tend to cook out and our favorite is shiskabobs. But I also like to make soup for a crowd. That Jambayla looks good!

My favortie thing to cook and eat for that matter is lasagna. It's perfect for big groups. Although last night I fixed mexican chicken lasagna in a hurry. And boy, oh boy it was so yummy. My bunch loved it.

I want the pan but more than anything I really want to make that yummy looking Jambalaya.

I love me some Jam-ba-lyah. My great grandmother (native of New Orleans) made the yummiest!

My new fave dish to make is chicken-n-dumplin's. I was always so intimidated by this dish. I was at a friends a few weeks ago and she made it while I was there. I got to see how easy it is and my kids love to help knead and roll the dough.

Mmmm. I have made it four times in the last three weeks!

Oh that looks delicious! I haven't had jambalaya in such a long time, and I don't think I've ever made it myself??

My favorite meal to cook for big groups is Chili and beer bread. NO complaints. Delicious.

I make jambalaya. Sometimes. But I have to tweak it for my wimpy palate. Is the mix pretty spicy??

I really like that pan. I have a big 12" frying pan that I have to use a lot because they just don't make pans deep enough. And I love that this one has a lid.

Favorite thing to cook for a crowd - chicken enchiladas. Yum.

The jubalaya looks delicious! My favorite food to make for a large group of people is something like tacos. It's easy, generally everyone likes them, and there's great side dishes/appetizers to go with them.

I LOVE to cook, but I've never tried making jambalaya. It looks incredibly filling. I've been a cooking fool lately, but I only have two skillet pans - not conducive to cooking! I recently won an exotic grilled cheese 'throwdown' in a contest. Did I win anything fancy? Um, only if you count a can of spray cheese as fancy!

When harvest is in full swing I usually cook supper while TNT and his parents are in the field. I love making chicken fajita's cause its super easy and they can help themselves.

During fall harvest I make chili and potato soup also.

The most I've ever cooked for is my army (5), but this year, I get the most-high privilege of doing Thanksgiving Dinner since my sister is supposed to be birthing a baby. (What's that all about?!) I'm nervous. Hope everyone likes Velveeta Shells and Cheese!

OK, I hesitate to even say this, being a native Texas originally from the southeast part of the state (right by Louisiana)...but I've never tried jambalaya. I think, though, after looking at your recipe, I might have to. Don't know why I never have...

My favorite crowd pleasing meal (and EVERY meal I cook is for a crowd...) is my creamy chicken spaghetti. I love it, and the kids will choke it down. Course, all they really want is pizza.

My favorite thing to make a giant batch of is seafood chowder. Milk, onions, corn, and all the real & fake seafood I can afford to throw in the pot. Add one ton of butter and some cheesy biscuits. Yum.
Gonna have to try the jambalaya, looks goooood.

I have lots of things I like to make for a crowd. Hmmmm. I like to do roasted chicken. I just do a couple at the same time. Two nice sized ones fit in my roasting pan but I could throw in a 3rd in another pan if I needed to. I can roast potatoes and other veggies at the same time. Then, I throw brownies in when the chicken and veggies are done for dessert. I also make killer pesto and red sauce from scratch for pasta.
I NEED that pan! I love me some stir-fry and I always end up using a regular skillet. I have been dying for a stir-fry pan.

I am FROM Louisiana, I LOVE Jambalaya and I like to cook gumbo for a big crowd. Especially at this time of year when the weather is cooler.

I don't often cook for a big crowd, but one thing I do make for parties and stuff is a pasta salad with chicken, cheese, veggies and Italian dressing as the glue that brings it all together.

During the fall, one of my favorite things to make for a crowd is rigatoni with roasted veggies. Everyone always likes it; it is interesting; and actually taste good as a leftover.

My sister moved to Florida and we visited her and her family summer 07. They took us to a crab shack via their boat and we had a "full boil" and loved it. Last summer I saw it being prepared on the food network and tried the recipe. I added crab legs and scallops and a beer butter sauce and it came out awesome.

While we were in the south my husband orderd jambalaya every chance he got, so even if I don't win, I will see how I can order the mix you recommend.

I cook a lot. Last night I made Clam Chowder and served it in sourdough bread bowls. It was sooo good.
Particularly since it was all rainy and dreary here. I have to say, I rarely do cajun. That recipe looks good though.

I live in Louisiana--always have--my whole life....and I cook Jambalaya at least 3x/month. I have never tried that kind of mix though....I don't think I have ever seen it in the stores around here. Gonna have to look for it next time.

Hiya. FOr a big group I love to cook chicken lasagna. Its layers are noodles, chicken, stuffing, and a creamy sauce made with mayo, crm of chicken soup, milk, etc. Topped with cheese. It is SO yummy. Kinda a lot of work to make it, but so worth it!

Normally when we have a big group over, Logan will cook Chicken quarters on his fancy schmancy Bar-B-Que pit he built! Its the best stuff ever. :)

mexican chicken burritos!

-spanish rice
-1 can mexican stewed tomatoes
-mexican corn
-chopped olives
-canned chilis (ortega)
-boneless skinless chicken
-black beans
-salsa
-cheese
-taco seasoning
-torillas (i like the mexican ones, but the whole wheat ones are good too)

cook the chicken (and add the taco seasoning) in a pot with water on the stove for 30 minutes

cook the spanish rice with the tomatoes seperately in a pan (follow directions on box, rice a roni works well and it's cheap)

In a cassarole dish, mix the olives, black beans, corn, chilis, cooked chopped up chicken (bite size pieces), salsa and rice and put a layer of cheese on the top.

bake it for 15-20 minutes at 375 or until the cheese is melty and bubbly (if it gets dark, then it's too long). serve as a cassarole or as burritos!!!

It's amazing... and whoever is eating it will thank you for it. and it's super easy!

I will cook just about anything that people want me to. Most of the time my broccoli & cheese casserole is requested. This includes extra, extra, extra cheesy goodness and sometimes chicken when I feel like it. There are NEVER any leftovers. :)

Oh, yum!! That looks so delicious! And some new cookware, too? Great post!!! I just had my tennis team over and I cooked a huge meal - salad, green bean casserole, scalloped potatoes, and grill chicken with Bib Bob Gibson's white sauce. Big Bobs is a local bbq restaurant that has THE BEST white sauce. As a matter of fact - that would be a great giveaway one day. Big Bob's white sauce and Dale's steak sauce - both some Alabama favorites!

Hey
I cooked porcupine meatballs.

It is so easy and everyone loves them and even though I don't spice them up too much, you can add whatever ingredients you want.

Take 1 lb of ground beef, turkey, chicken, whatever meat you want.

Place in a large mixing bowl mix 1/2 cup rice with it. Salt and pepper and spice to your taste.

Roll into 1 inch meatballs.

In a pressure cooker, put one can of tomato sauce and one can of Tomato soup. I use Hunts and Campbells respectively, it just doesn't taste the same with store brands, sorry.

Anyway salt, pepper, spice the sauce/soup mixture to your taste. Add 1/2 soup can of water to sauce/soup mix.

Add meatballs to sauce/soup mix. Attach lid and set to pressure cook. As soon as the little doodad on top starts to hassle, I cut the heat way back to 2, 3 or 4 and let it cook for about 25 minutes. (CAREFUL, it will scorch if you are not vigilant.)

While this is going on, cook about 2 cups of rice in a separate pot. Set aside.

After the pressure cooker has done it's thing, remove lid, WHEN ITS SAFE TO DO SO, and then gently fold in the cooked rice.

Serve. YUMMY!!! Simple and so delicious.

It's cold and windy here in Colorado, so that really looks good! My favorite dish to cook for a large group is chili. My recipe has it's roots in the 'Wendy's' chili recipe found in top-secret recipes. I have modified it to satisfy my meat-lovin' DH. I have made a giant roaster pan full before that took about 12 lbs of meat. Mmmm, now I am hungry :)

My favorite, favorite dish to cook for a crowd is "Chicken Spaghetti" it makes a ton and its a true homemade Texas Dish. I have to admit i never heard of Chicken Spaghetti when i first moved here but that was 20 years ago. I have been to Louisiana went to the boats to do a bit of gambling. It not to far from me love love their food.

Well Rhea, it's like this. I make a big big pan of my mom's macaroni and cheese when cooking for a large group, if it's a carry in.

I have been to New Orleans 3 times and love it but the damp makes me cough..yuck but I just drink it away with a few Jagers.. lol I have had Jambalaya and love it too.

ooh, I don't know what it's called, but you take alfredo sauce, and put in cooked chicken,(cut up) some pesto, sun dried tomatoes, olives and artichoke hearts. serve over pasta. So good! my mom made this for our wedding! The sauce freezes well too. =)

Oh, this is hard one. I have 2 fave dishes for groups. The first is a lasagna recipe that I came across last Christmas. It's excellent! The second is a poppyseed chicken casserole that is comfort food at it's purest. Yummy!

Favorite thing to cook for a group is definitely chicken parmesean. I've never been to LA, but I'd like to! Right now I'm working on a "Backwards Dinner" for tonight. Baked Stuffed Banana Peppers.

I enjoy making them & I love eating them. All of our friends and family love them so much - that is the only thing they ask that I bring.
I made them last year & forgot to wear gloves when I removed the seeds & membranes and my hands were on FIRE for the next 3 days but they are delicious & wonderful snack.

We froze our banana peppers from our garden this year so we can have them all year!!!!

I have been to LA. Louisana that is...New Orleans pre-Katrina. It was fabulous...the hotel, the people, the food. Everything.

Big crowds = Pasta

And ironically I made spaghetti for dinner last night. Just the 3 of us and we're still having pasta. Go figure.

I LOVE JAMBALAYA and large frying pans! Count me in. I love to cook stuffed cabbage. I know, it SMELLS bad when cooking, but for all of us Polish people here in the mountains of Pennsylvania, it's comfort food. YOu make a mixture of hamburger and rice, salt and pepper, and roll up alls of it in cabbage leaves; cover with tomato sauce and sauerkraut and cook all day. Yeah, IT STINKS, but it's damn good.

I've never been to LA, but would LOVE to visit. Have a friend who lives in Bogalusa and have never met her in person. It'd be so fun!

Let's see... what do I like to cook for a crowd? Well, I never really cook for lots of people and I guess you'd consider me a simple cook for the most part. When family comes over I just like making a nice roasted chicken, homemade mashed taters and some veggies. I want that damn pan girl!

The last thing I think I made for a big group was homemade chili at our Christmas party last year with assorted fixins/toppings. I don't like anything tooooo hot, seasoned yes, but so hot you can't taste anything thru the burn isn't for me. Hub just love food the hotter the better. He just put a bunch of peppers he grew this summer into the crock pot and simmered them down for homemade hot sauce which he'll put on everything!

Oooooooooooo.......... perfect size for stir fry for our family! :D
I just take cheap steak/chicken, whatever is cheap for the week, cut it up let it sit in Kikkoman Stir-Fry Sauce for an hour up to 1 day, pop it in a pan with veggies (we prefer broccoli, carrots, green or red peppers, and baby corn cobs), cook till meat is done (about 15-20 min.), make rice, each person puts the stir fry over rice and devours it! Yummy!!

I have 7 children so every dinner is a big party, but we also have both sets of parents in town, my grandparents and my sister's family. It's a great big group that gets together atleast once a month. Anyway, I love to make this chicken with cream cheese sauce in the crock pot, serve it with rice, make some veggies, a dessert and you're done. Yum!

I love to feed people and I always try to make something new and different. But, I love to make a full turkey dinner. When the turkey's are cheap around Thanksgiving time I buy at least 5 or 6 and keep them in my freezer to cook all year long. I love to have the full meal with the mashed potatoes and green bean casserole and everything. It is great for feeding a crowd. I need a stir fry pan!

My favorite, asside from real Texas chili, is Cuban Beef Stew. It is rich and yummy. It is an ethnic dish that does not taste too ethnic, but just ethnic enough. Every time I serve it I get at least 3-4 requests for the recipe. I have to say it is one of the best "stew" type recipes I have ever had. Now that I am in Ohio, I have to bring out those Texas Chili Recipes too.....everyone here puts, get this, cinnamon and chocolate in the chili! NOT!!! So pick me, so I can show the folks around here how to really cook.

Ooh, oooh, what an excellent giveaway! I've been so busy with school this week that I just found this contest today. Throw my name into the hat....please!!!!

I absolutely LOVE New Orleans. I went several times as a kid and later after I left home. My husband and I went a couple of years ago for his first trip there ever. Being the excellent cook that he is, he fell in love with the city and the food. When we got home, he immediately made a big dish of jambalaya. I would give this pan to him and let him have a field day. Cooking is fun for him.

I love to cook a full out tex-mex meal! velveeta queso, homemade salsa and guac. and enchiladas and mexican rice! My mexican rice still needs some work.. so any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thhe Hubby does spicy, but I'm a bit of a wimp. I kind of rather like my taste buds, I want to keep them intact :-)

You had to go and do it. I know you was sick vomiting and you wanted someone else to join you at the time, so you posted big old disgusting sausages! I've got chills. I HATE sausages, except summer sausages, now sometimes I hate them too if I over think them.
