Art in Motion

I've never liked jellyfish. In fact, I've always feared them...until I saw the jellyfish exhibit at the Monterey Bay Aquarium: Jellies: Living Art. I was blown away. The colors, the flowing and undulating movement, it was all amazing. The silence accentuated their beauty and I could have spent all day taking it in.

I still wouldn't want to swim with them, but now I appreciate their beauty. Nature can be so truly incredible.

Have you ever been to Monterey Bay Aquarium?

OH, they're so beautiful and soothing to watch. poetry in motion. That exhibit really mesmerizes. It's a perfect symphony for the senses when they have classical musical playing. ; )

p.s. I adore being first!

I love jelly fish. Well...looking at them, not swimming with them. There were a bunch of them in the water with us in the Bahamas a few years ago. We managed to stay away.

Have you ever watched Survivor? This past season they had a "reward" of swimming in jelly fish lake. The jelly fish that are in the freshwater lose their ability to sting. And there are gazillions of them in the water. It looked gorgeous - I would love to swim with them then.

WOW! This is beautiful beyond words, my friend. What an absolutely fantastic post (yet again)!

Aren't they just spectacular? Why does something so beautiful have to be so damn poisonous anyway?

Justine :o )

Jellyfish are so awesome, as long as you are looking at them, with preferably a sheet of glass between you. Don't like swimming with them so much, though.

I've been stung, back in NZ, by the 'Blue Bottle' jellyfish. They don't kill, but they really hurt. I think it's known as the 'Portuguese Man'O War' in the US ...

Hope all is still well with you re Ike...

Aren't they gorgeous? And isn't that the best aquarium in the world?
You could spend a week there and not see it all.

Jellies are super cool. Great pics.

I don't particulary want to get sting by one but they are truly a sight to see. We had lots of the kind that don't have strong venom at the Cape and you could catch them.

Did you take these shots? They're incredibly artistic--you could sell them for a Pretty Penny, I'll bet! When we see Jellies at the beach, I'm the only one who will go in. The kids have some weird notion that they're going to be "surrounded," sorta like in "Finding Nemo." I've never been stung yet, and have seen some incredible sights!

Awesome shots!!

I am not a fan of the jelly fish, well, of what they can do to you, but they are beautiful creatures and well, I still LAUGH OUT LOUD (seriously) when I think back to the time when one stung my X husband on his upper thigh, yup...I laughed then...and am still laughing now! HAHAHA

OK...I know that sounds rather mean, but uh....well I am mean that way, LOL

awwwww I'm a little weird! I love all animals deadly or not (but you know that!)

I've been hospitalised from being bitten by 2 red back spiders while saving them!!!

And stung by a jelly fish by doing the good deed of cleaning up the beach!!! (I thought is was a plastic bag ffs) So I picked it up to throw in the bin and it's tenticles wrapped around my arm! Very painful!

That's what I get for a good deed eh? And I STILL felt sorry for the jelly fish because it had died! :-( xx

They really are beautiful.

I can't look at them without thinking of 'Finding Nemo' though... I had to have seen it 100times by now...

We went to Florida a few years ago, and while at the beaches, my youngest was stung by a jelly fish. bad experience....he spent the rest of the vacation swimming at the hotel pool! Nice pictures, though.

Nice jellyfish pictures! We just went to the Seattle Aquarium today, lol. We saw some jellyfish, and a giant octopus.

I'm fascinated by them, too.

I'm actually fascinated by ALL sea creatures, but there's just something about jellyfish. Almost mythical.

I caught your post on google alerts. If you like the jellyfish at the aquarium, you might be interested in Jellyfish Art. They make high-end custom jellyfish aquariums. There are good pictures and video at www.jellyfishart.com/category/jellyfish.

We get tons of little ones at the Jersey shore and they are not so nice especially if swimming near them or accidentally stepping on one. But the pictures are so beautiful!!! Really neat.

Those pics are gorgeous! Jellyfish are one of my fave animals to see live and in photos. Such elegance in their movement.
