Did you know that Coffee Cake tastes nothing like Coffee?

My Mistakes & Assumptions

Am I the only one who had no idea about this?

I don't drink coffee, and I don't like the taste of coffee,
so I always steered clear of coffee cake
because I assumed it tasted like coffee.

Hah.

I was wrong.

I made a big mistake this week.
I am usually the one to pay our bills around here.

And I missed a payment...to the electric company.

And they didn't like that.

They cut our power.
I immediately rectified my mistake and paid the bill...
but it took them 24 hours to turn it back on.

So, we packed up the family and spent the night at my mom's.
Me, Texas Homeboy, the kids, my elderly father & the dog.

I was SO embarrassed.
and humiliated.
and irritated with myself.

Our dog Annie was a nervous wreck at my mom's house...
because Kachi the big bully kitty terrorizes her there.

Poor Annie.

BTW, I just told my kids that I needed their help cleaning out my car
(because the car is full of their stuff)
and they both ran out of the room.

I'm thinking about going after them with water guns...

Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there!

I didn't know Blue Jays could do that.

It's been a rough week.
I've been sick.
And we lost power for 24 hours...

so this will be short.

These are the trees outside the office where I work.

And this little critter calls that tree his home.

Hey, pretty bird!

Whatcha doing?

And then I watched in amazement as the bird swallowed the acorn...WHOLE.

It's not swine flu...

...but, it's kicking my butt.

First Remy got it.

Then a few days later, Donny got it.

Then it got me.

I've been renewing my acquaintance with this:

Around the corner and down the glen...to Cubicle Land.

As I head to work this morning, listening to NPR, I will be stuck in traffic behind trucks like this:

Imaging what would happen if this driver slammed on his brakes...

My car might be decorated with flowers.

Speaking of decoration...

I'm thinking about re-doing my blog design.

Meanwhile, at work, our boss has challenged us to become creative with our cubicles.

Yes, I live in Cubicle Land.

I have so many big ideas of what to do with mine...
but I'm going to start with something small.

And then change it weekly or so for a while until I find the right fit.

Today, I think I'm going to cover mine in flowers.
Fake flowers.
from Michaels.

Do you guys have any fun, creative, weird or wacky ideas for my cubicle?

The Hand of Ice, A Pee Strike & I got ID'd at Office Max

My children have sticky fingers.
And I don't mean literally.

Every time we end up in an emergency room, or doctor's office, or hospital,
they pilfer medical gloves.

They can't seem to resist.
They just grab two or three...

and then they bring them home to blow up like a balloon or just play with.

And I tweeted about it recently...
to which I received a reply from the Screwed Up Texan:

Have you ever made ice hands out of latex gloves?
Freeze over night and then dip quickly in hot water to release from glove.

I told my boys about this,
and of course, they had to try it.

And that's how we ended up with the HAND OF ICE in our freezer.

It's cool...and creepy.

And yes, I think it's already ended up on the dog and down someone's pants.

Speaking of the dog...she's on a pee strike.

Because it's been raining.

She LOVES to swim...but hates the rain.

I open the backdoor to let her outside...and she just stares at me like I'm nuts.

We went to Office Max yesterday...

Home of the rubber band ball.

And I got ID'd when we went to check out.

I kid you not.

I was ID'd trying to buy this:

I'm not sure if I'm flattered...or horrified that it's come to this.

(Check out (& comment on!) my post about ancient ruins, a volcanic crater & a blowhole)

Loyal & Loved

Seamus was my mom and stepfather's dog.

Before we were able to adopt Annie, Seamus was my boys' first love.

He was older, but the sweetest, gentlest dog I've ever met.

He was loyal to his people and to his boys.

He was loyal and well loved.

He will be missed.

Seamus
RIP

Money on my Mind

I was stuck in traffic this morning and letting my mind brainstorm...

what do we all see every day that has not been inundated with advertising yet?

MONEY!

It would be kind of cool to advertise on money.

The government could make money...ON money.

I've written a post on foreclosure scams & credit restoration

&

I also wrote a post on Avery Island,
a unique island in Louisiana that's a salt dome and home of Tabasco Sauce.
