My Not-So-Midlife Crisis

I just discovered Gene Simmon's Family Jewels
which is a great reality show following the Kiss rock star and his family.

I admire his business acumen
(did I use that word correctly? It just came out! so I'm going to leave it there).

Ironically, it inspires me to follow my dreams.

I'm not satisfied with the career path I've found myself blundering along.
I need to be writing.
I spend more time thinking about writing than actually writing.

And I want a small farm
Or just a little house with a little bit of land to have chickens, a dairy cow and some donkeys.
A garden to grow vegetables.
an apple tree?

Maybe I've been playing too much We Farm on my iPhone?

I have a strong need to live more "country" and write about it.

Have I lost my mind?!

Thanks for the Gene Simmons link. As an aging Kiss fan, it was fun to think about the good old days.

I have gotten addicted to family jewels and I wasn't a kiss fan in my youth.
I would say to you. . . . volunteer at a farm. . . . I grew up on one. . . hated cleaning chick poo. . . . hated getting the horses back in the fence when they got out. . . . luckily my dad did all the hard stuff. . . paid for the alfalfa. . . fixed the barns when they leaked. . . . it is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. :)
Ciao

I second sicilian said- go have an adventure vaca at a farm. My mom tried living on a farm before I was born. She didn't really like it.
I actually think vacations that are experience based like that- farm, ranch, etc- are great ideas. You get to try on different ways of living.

I love that show and wouldn't think of missing it... so different from the performer -- he's just a regular dad.

Yes, go on a vacation-farm and find out whet it's really like... farm animals mean you never NEVER get to go anywhere because they have to be cared for every day... not like dropping the dog or cat off while you go check out vineyards in Italy... I had a 16-acre farm and only really enjoyed it when the animals were finally sold off and I could enjoy my evenings...

Have you read Chickensintheroad.com - I think that is right - anyway - Suzanne is living that dream too. I think you would like her and she says anything is possible. It is a good dream to have.

Dreams become reality. You go for it! In case you want to do some farm-shopping (once your divorce is final!) I'd recommend this real estate website - it's how I found our last 2 country properties.

www.cbdfw.com

I like it because it not only lists Coldwell Banker properties but all the properties for sale in an area (except By Owner ones). And I really like it because you can search by po-dunk towns (like the one we live in here in Kaufman Cty). We lived in Dallas and Garland areas for years, then moved to Rockwall Cty after I found an old sided house on 4 acres. We fixed it up and lived there for 8 yrs. Then decided we needed more land after I added 3 horses... So now we're in Kaufman Cty on 22 acres. And it's WONDERFUL! In between properties, I used the cbdfw.com site to search the entire eastern side of Dallas (from yes, McKinney and beyond, down to Ennis.) And I'd drive out to properties after work, on weekends, etc. because you have to see an area in person to know if you like it. And that's how I found our little 9-sided house with its curving pond and lovely oaks, and wonderful horse barn, etc. etc. (And we paid $10k less for this 22 ac. property than what we sold our 4 ac. property for in Rockwall Cty.)

Anyway, just had to pass along this suggestion for you to do some dream-shopping. You can do it!!!
