I love thunderstorms.
(I did a Google search and found there are groups for people who love thunderstorms...)
Right before the storm, the wind picks up.
You can smell the negatively-charged ions in the air.
The negatively charged ions increase the flow of oxygen to the brain,
which increases mood, alertness and mental energy.
You can literally "feel" the change.
As our storm rolled in, we sat outside watching the amazing lightning show.
and I tried to capture photos.
But most my photos ended up looking just like this one:

We were literally seeing jagged lightning going horizontally in the sky.
It was a Shock & Awe kind of storm.
I once read an amazing book about someone who was struck by lightning twice.
I'm afraid this storm kicked my butt in the photography department.
I'm going to need a lot more practice trying to photograph lightning.
This was my masterpiece of the evening:
Do you revel in a good thunderstorm?
Or do you hide in bed under the covers with a flashlight?

I love a thunderstorm!
But I have yet to try to capture lightning on film.
I have always loved thunderstorms.
That last picture is great!
I used to love thunderstorms. Until a few weeks ago when one sat on our house for 6 hours without relenting. It was scary. I hestitate to even think about how the kiddos are going to react when we get another storm in the night. Madalyn is already convinced that every time it rains we'll have another flood.
I ADORE thunderstorms. We had a really great one about 3:30 this morning. It looked like pooploads of fireworks were going off in my yard and the thunder was so close and so loud, I almost had to put in earplugs.
I LOVED it! I couldn't go back to sleep right away, so I just snuggled down under my quilt and just listened to the thunder and the rain.
It was awesome.
I like a good thunderstorm. Especially at night. But I wouldn't want one that lasted 6 hours... YIKES.
Shane's goal is to someday take a good photo of lightning.
As long as I'm safe, lightning is beautiful. But living where I do, it's too deadly and too often close.
I used to enjoy thunderstorms until I was in the tornado. Now... not so much.
We sit on our screen porch and watch the fireworks when there is a thunder and lightning storm.
Yummy.
When I was young I would have nightmares during thunderstoms one night I dreamed I was in a war zone and there were bombs dropping, then I woke up and heard the thunder and thought it was true. Then at the age of 16 I was driving under a tree that was struck. I used to get upset during storms, not scared just agitated.
Now I live where people are scared spitless of thunder and lightning and they don't bother me at all, except for the dog on my chest, so I can't breathe.
Meant to say that the last picture is pretty good. Did you have a tripod? If so you might want a remote shutter, or I think they are called shutter cables.
I am a big wimp! I don't like storms at all:-(
Oh man, I heart me some storms! The more wicked the better. You should see the shit we get down here! Lightning forking to the ground all over the place. It's crazy and I love it!
Justine :o )
My husband and I both LOVE storms. The kids get scared but we're trying to teach them to love them as well. Love your pictures!
