Inside the inner sanctum of a 17-year-old

Here's a picture of my bedroom when I was in high school.
I had my own little suite on the second floor.
That doorway you see?
It led to an outdoor staircase leading down to the backyard...
an escape route I might have used once or twice.

Not a very exciting picture, I know.
I have the cute, girly bedspread I picked out when I was 14.
The black stereo I could jam out to during the day
and then play soothing piano music at night.
You can see the corner of my camp trunk.
The bookcase.
The poster of a guy being blown back by his stereo...boring.
The fan, I loved. I love the noise and the cool air.
My room had a separate air unit, and I turned it way down at night.
I've always loved being cold at night.
So I can snuggle under my covers.
Alone.
This bed is now in my 11 year old son's room.
With a different comforter of course.
I still have the stereo.
and now I share my bed
with my Texas Homeboy, two boys and a dog.

  1. Cute - I had a similar quilt style all through my teens too :-)

Now I share my bead with an Okie and 3 cats who hog it!

  2. that is a cool bedroom to have!! :) an outdoor staircase... you must have been a very trustworthy teen. :)

I had a bedset similar to that... but mine had a black background with flowers on it! :)

and my room wasn't as clean as yours... you probably could only see a quarter of my floor... the rest was under clothes and papers and junk. lol

  3. Cool teenager digs!!
I didn't realize you are living in the same house you grew up in...that's neat. Too bad for your son living in your old room though...you know all about escape routes!

  6. Sometimes I miss having a bed to myself. Then my other half ends up on travel for a couple of weeks and I decide it's better to share.

  7. Hey...you can see the floor of your room! And are all those shades over windows? So pretty! And I had that exact same comforter and dust ruffle. I got it when I got my first apartment - so probably the same year you got yours. Too funny! And Katie has my queen sized bed that it was on.

  9. Your room was huge! I had a small room. My sisters had the big ones! Love the staircase escape! We used to go out a upstairs bathroom window!

  10. Don't you just sometimes long for your own room and space? I know that I do.

  11. By the way, who has more room, you at 17 or your kids now?

  12. I think everyone had that photograph, with the stereo blowing the man away. I had it.

  14. First, an OUTDOOR entrance. What were your parents thinking? Second, the swag around the top. TOO TOO TOO much! My room was and is buried under clothes.

  15. Wow, does that comforter look REALLY familiar. And I had an outdoor entrance too. It was called my window. LOL!

I wish I had pics of my room when I was that age. Ah, the memories!

  19. Neat room. I had to share a tiny one with my sis for alot of years. :(
I loved to put the a/c on and the electric blanket at the same time and feel warm and cool!
Even now, I use a comforter and maybe another blanket in my bed but have the a/c blaring!!
