Honey Bun

This is my grandmother's cat, Honey Bun, who lives in Baton Rouge.

I had more fun saying that name.

I believe in putting thought into naming a pet.

I've named a dog after a Greek goddess.

And one of my favorite stuffed animals, a penguin, I named Captain Ork.

Any good names you've come up with for pets or stuffed critters?

  1. My dogs are named after beers. We have Guinness and Murphy. Does that make us cool? I'd like to think so. I mean, Josh was really pushing for Thor. I'm just glad I dodged that bullet ;)

  2. most of my animals now have people names like annie, tom and martin.
but we also have had names from mythology and the usual cute names. Then there is always the dang its and #'s that we can do.

  3. My dog's name is Olive... but I call her Dummy or A-Hole most of the time...

I had a friend in college with a cat named Stinky Biohazard.

  4. My parents got a kitten and named her Polly Pistol because she was a giant ball of energy and was so tough around the other kittens.

  6. My cat is Tails. As in Sonic the Hedgehog's buddy. Who knew he'd grow one huge fluffy tail just like the cartoon Tails!

I have a give-away going on until Sunday. So stop by when you have a moment! :)

  7. We have Dukealicious-Duke for short. Before him, there was Augie Doggie (or snauggie dogggie). My Dad liked German names (he was Lebanese) and named his dachshunds Heidi and Dagmar.

Honey Bun is the color of honey. I see where she got her name.

  13. Ugh, and my husband keeps talking about how he want's to name the next baby "Champion."

Where do they come up with this stuff?

Thank God that when I had my daughter I was the only one who had to sign the birth certificate! Thank you NC state law.

  15. Itchy goes for the obvious - his stuffed animals are Soft Bunny, Yellow Bunny and the newest that we made at Build-a-Bear the other day, Friend of Bunny. We are NOT allowed to call it FOB for short.

We took care of a stray cat (I guess that makes him our cat) for 5 years - I'm allergic so he stayed an outdoor cat. But since we didn't know whose cat he was, we called him Mr. Johnson....MJ for short.

My neice was used to getting stuffed animals with their names on the tags - she got one that didn't have the name....instead it was called Made in China.

  16. We have two cats at our apartment; Popeye and Olive. I didn't name them, the people at the vets office that found them did and we just kept the names.

My cats back at my parents house are named Flash (she was a little kitty and would zip from table to table, hiding under the tablecloths because she was so scared), and Piglet (she ate so much and so often!).

But my first pet was a fish. I was 2 and named the fish "Name-o" :)

  18. Huney Bun is beautiful. Those huge eyes....

One of my favorite animals names was a cat named Uesugi, named after an ancient Japanese Warior. It came from a game my son was playing at the time. We pronounced it U sugi and called him Suge for short.

  19. Honey Bun is absolutely beautiful!

My three fur-kids were already named when we got them, because they are all rescues.

  20. We seem to be partial to people names for our kitties. I've had a Frannie, Zoe, Ivan, Todd, and Cindy. Right now we have Jessie and Ella. But I really wanted to name them Agnes and Myrtle...

  21. Honey Bun has the most adorable face. I have always adopted animals, so they have always come with names attached. However, I would love 4 dogs called Athos, Porthos, Aramis and Dogtanion, but hubby says no! :(

  24. There was once a very long-haired cat that would hang around my grandma's house. Grandma thought she was "pretty as a penny", so she called her Penny.

Eventually, she started following Grandma right into the house and from there, ended up staying. So Grandma had a cat named Penny.

Time to take the cat to the vet for a check-up.

The vet informed Grandma that Penny was a boy cat (VERY long-hair) and asked if she wanted him "fixed". Of course.

My dad always called the cat "She-He-It". Say it fast...

    Justine :o )

  31. Oh shit! I forgot our last dog. Her name was Snuffie. Or Snuffles. Actually, both of those were short for Snuffalupagus (named after that big elephant-like thing on Sesame Street) I bet you didn't know he had a middle name too. Yep, it's Aloysius. I know stupid shit like that. Anyway, Snuffie was also called Snuffapoopagus or Snuffapuppygus.

    Justine :o )

Cats named Trouble, Mischief & Mayhem; Bow & Tai; Neo ('cause he was "The One" that was always in trouble).

and hamsters named Sonic & Tails .. who bred like nobody's business.

  33. The only stuffed toy I can think of that was mine as a kid was Elmer the Elephant... pretty good, right?

My girls tend to use names from their TV shows for their Webkinz and other stuffed animals... Troy & Gabriella (from High School Musical), Oliver & Lily (from Hannah Montana), etc. Little Miss' favorites are a puppy named Puppy and monkey named Banana.

We once had a cat who had this extremely beautiful speckled coat of fur... we named her Cingin... as in cinnamon and ginger, 'cause those were the colors of her fur.

  34. My daughter once called a little stuffed bear "milk bear" cause she used it to wipe up spilled milk.

  35. I think Honey Bun is the purrfect name for your Grandmother's cat. I'll bet she's as sweet as a Honey Bun and she's honey colored too!

  38. We named our first dog Abbott, and had hopes of naming our second one Costello, but when we asked our kids about using Costello, they said WHY?? And we TRIED to explain, but they DIDN'T get it.

    So........we've got Abbott and ....Junior.

  40. Awww... Honey Bunn looks so sweet and has a beautiful (yet funny!) name.

When I was a kid we had a family of cats who were all named with the letter T... Timmy, Tommy, Tiger and Tigger. Now we've got 2 cats... Mika (Named after former F1 World Champion Mika Hakkinen) and Leo (because he looks like a lion!).

  41. Our dog is named after a Greek Goddess - Aphrodite. Her mate was my beloved Adonis. Her mother was Venus. My first dog I named after the bionic woman - Jamie Summers. Then I had a dog named after a character in a book - Kelson.

The cats get more common names - Dusty, Peanut, Frisco, Muffin and Darth Mittens. :)

  42. Those names are fun and Honey Bun fits that beautiful little kitty. Lovely photo too.

  43. I love Honey Bun. My kids have a cat named Puma and one name Mazuno after the tennis shoes they were born by. My cat when I was little was Sime Mariz. Still miss him.

  44. I think we've got the best name for our cat. His name is Nike Sneakers Frankenweenie. Now that's a name! Nike Sneakers because he has high tops (white socks) in the back and low tops in the front. And Frankenweenie because the kids thought it was funny.

I've heard some other animal names that I thought were very clever. One of our friends has a dalmation with brown spots so they called her Mocha Dot - brilliant! Someone's blog I read, I think it's Dorky Dad, has a dumb cat so they named him Dennis the Minus (instead of Dennis the Menace). I love names like that.

  45. My 2 pound poodle is named Girnigoe (pronounced: gear ni go).

She's named after Girnigoe Castle in Scotland, although after I had named her, I found out that her name actually means green sea inlet in Gaelic.

    :) Terri

Our animals have all sorts of names. Sasha, Tater Tot a.k.a. Tater or Tate, Isabella, Lilly the cat.....

  48. That CAT is so pretty!

I had a bird I named Mary Jane. Mary Jane had a foot deformaty and couldn't stand well, pretty off balanced. I said it looked like she was stoned. So that is how she got the name Mary Jane, so the kids wouldn't get it!! lol But then a year later, I realized she was a boy, so she got the name Mervey Jim. She/he had better balance by then.
